Lived History - The Wind River Virtual Museum

EVERY ARTIFACT HAS A STORY

Wind River Virtual Museum

Wyoming PBS, with Alpheus Media and Lord Cultural Resources, created a 'virtual museum' of artifacts from the two Native American tribes residing on Wyoming's Wind River Reservation - the Eastern Shoshone and the Northern Arapaho. The virtual museum features high definition images and videos of ancestral artifacts, enhanced with descriptions and stories about the artifacts as told by tribal elders in their native languages (also available in English). An accompanying 30-minute documentary tells the story of the reconnection by Shoshone and Arapaho tribal members with their ancestral artifacts, as elders from both tribes visited the Chicago Field Museum and were able to see the antiquities for the first time since those artifacts had been removed from the reservation by collectors as long as 170 years ago. The elders' description and interpretation of those artifacts are available in 14 separate video clips.
